Chief Medical Director, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, AKTH in Kano State, Professor Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe on Wednesday says it is unethical for health workers to run away and leave their patients at the critical time of the raging coronavirus pandemic.
Prof. Sheshe made this known when he received a delegation of members of the Joint Unions of Health Associations in Nigeria, JOHESU led by its National President, Comrade Biobolomoye Joy Josiah who were on a solidarity visit to the hospital management over the incident of some of it staffs been infected by the dreaded disease in the course of their duty.
In a statement by the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Hauwa Abdullahi said the CMD explained that as it has been the responsibility of the military to fight and conquered enemies in war front so also it is the responsibility of the health workers to fight and defeat the pandemic no matter what.
He described as unfortunate and unethical a situation health care personnel run away and leave their Patient at this critical time.
Professor Sheshe, however, commended the health workers of the hospital for their dedication and commitment to the hospital Services and service delivery to the Patients during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
The CMD also used the occasion to thanked ABUMET Nigeria Limited, IHSAN Foundation as well as other individuals and philanthropic Associations who donated Forty-Five (45) beds, two dialysis machines, and some consumables like the personal protective equipment to the hospital respectively.
In a related development, the president of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Francis Faduyile who was also on a solidarity visit to the state, appealed to the concerned authorities to do the needful, aimed at ensuring that the morale of the Health workers in the Frontline was boosted in order to curb the COVID 19 pandemic.
He commended the commitment and selfless services of medical and health workers in the Frontline of fighting the COVID pandemic. Dr. Faduyile said fighting the COVID 19 pandemic was a collective responsibility, hence all efforts needed to be put in place, in ensuring that the states Goals were achieved.
