25 repatriates on Kano to Beirut flight tests positive for COVID -19


The ministry of health in Lebanon has reported discovering 25 persons aboard a flight from Kano Nigeria into the country on Wednesday tested positive for COVID-19.

The Lebanon government had given directives to its nationals from Nigeria, due to the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, hence, Middle East Airlines were contracted to handle the evacuation from Nigeria.

Upon the Lebanese Government’s request, April 3rdMiddle East Airlines / Air Liban announced that from April 5th, 2020 and MEA will commence successive repatriation trips to evacuate Lebanese expatriates and nationals from abroad, following conditions imposed by the concerned Lebanese Authorities.

Following evacuation directive, amongst several flights that have taken off between April and May, on May 5 the affected aircraft with flight number ME570, took off from Kano to Beirut, ending up repatriating 25 positive COVID-19 patients.

“The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health released a statement that it has been confirmed that 25 positive cases with COVID-19 were recorded among the passengers on board the flight that arrived from Nigeria”.

The statement read that the affected passengers will be taken to hospital for treatment, while others who tested negative would be quarantined.

The infected patients will be taken to the hospital, ensuring the negatively tested are monitored under strict domestic quarantine the health ministry said.

However, if any of the negatively tested passenger exhibits symptoms of COVID-19, the person will be sent to the hospital for re-examination, the ministry added.

“They will be followed up daily by the Ministry and whoever shows any symptoms will be referred to the hospital for re-examination.”
